Year Five started adding an extra local level to our Go with the Flow Unit this week. As part of our Yellow Fish Project, we donned our wellies and head off into Melton Constable to test out where the road drains flow to. Dr Tosney from Norfolk Rivers Trust poured some safe, inert dyes of different colours into drains at Wellington Road, outside the Co-op and outside Rutlands Butchers. Year 5 paced out the distances to where Burgh Beck comes out in the Edwards’ allotments and waited to see if the dye came through.
Our discovery was quiet powerful. Everything that goes in those drains came out into the stream! Then carries on to The Glaven, our local globally significant chalk stream. Watch this space for our next steps in the Yellow Fish Project.
